It all started with my first birth….

Driving on Al Wasl road, years before I was pregnant I knew I wanted a water birth. It wasn’t available yet at this time in Dubai. I learned it would ease the birth process. After maaaanyyy horror birth stories I heard from my female I was determined to birth naturally. Like my mom, she had 6 kids, 4 of them I’ve seen being born at the comfort of our home. Also my failed medical health journey stirred me into a natural healing route. This helped me massively to learn to trust my body, choices and healing modalities. It was close to 12am and it was harder to fall asleep. I felt a little tickle…. Around 3.30 I woke up and took a shower, tickles were still gentle, though I started to pick up. My husband woke up and prepared me some fruit breakfast on the recommendation of the hospital…. It looked lovely, blueberries, strawberries, apple and banana. Though I could not stand the smell of the banana. Husband tried to get rid of the banana quickly by eating it… and therefore he had to brush his teeth! My smell had heightened into the extremes. I hardly ate as we left to reach the car at 6am sharp. 15 minutes later we parked at the hospital parking. My surges were bearable though often and strong. At this point I had a few uncomfy moments already; Getting dressed, nothing was sitting comfy. Getting to the car, feeling so vulnerable, > what if I give birth in the car. The turns and bumps, fast or ultra slow, uncomfy either way. And then in the hospital, they stop you to do the paperwork (even though we prepped all that we could beforehand) I walked towards the elevator to get to the ward, by that time the room with the bath was getting prepared. I took off my normally comfy trousers in the hallway as it was bothering me. By this time I wanted to go to the toilet and sit in the bath. I skipped the heart monitor and sat on the toilet for some time. The water of the bath was pretty warm for my skin ‘though it needs to be this temperature for the baby’.... The surges become stronger and more intense, though not painful. I could feel more tension on my tailbone when she was emerging down. At 6.34am our first baby was born. We were in awe and so excited to welcome her. Wow this was smooth and easy! The breathing techniques, movement and the hint of having an orgasmic birth I just learned about paid off! This was the start of loving pregnancy and birth.
